6 Things You Never Really Cared to Know about Cameron Crowe

  • Eric Stoltz has appeared in Crowe's first 4 films: Fast Times at Ridgemont High, The Wild Life, Singles & Jerry Maguire. Stoltz's character in Jerry Maguire, Ethan Valhere, throws Jerry his bachelor party. Stoltz's party-thorwing character in Say Anything is also named Valhere.
  • Crowe's mother, Alice Marie Crowe, appeared in 6 of his films: Say Anything, Singles, Jerry Maguire, Almost Famous, Vanilla Sky & Elizabethtown.
  • Soundgarden's song, "Spoonman", can be heard in Singles, but it was then an unnamed tune. "Spoonman" was actually the name of a song by the movie's band, Citizen Dick, and was not on the soundtrack. It wasn't released by Soundgarden until 1994.
  • Speaking of Citizen Dick, it was made up of the following grungers: Stone Gossard, Jeff Ament, and Eddie Vedder, better known as the guys in Pearl Jam. Gossard and Ament were members of Mother Love Bone, whose lead singer, Andrew Wood, OD'd in 1990. Wood's life was the supposed inspiration for the film.
  • In two different movies, two of Crowe's characters vow to become "Mr. New" after a bad break-up: Lloyd Dobler in Say Anything & Steve Dunne in Singles.
  • I had a Citizen Dick t-shirt but it was "borrowed" by a friend in 1995 and I've never seen it again.
  • I guess that last one was more about me the Cameron Crowe. Moving on...
  • Crowe, who wrote all of his movies, based Almost Famous on his life as a teen reporter for Rolling Stone.
